The likes of Contact Harvest, Ghosts of Onyx and The Flood (Just skip the MC bits and focus on following the Marines/ODST's and Covenant) probably gel better with the game universe than the likes of FoR, First Strike or The Cole Protocol. There are definitely times and parts of the novels that I wish I could forget about, but C'est la vie. If I was to make any kind of recommendation, it would actually be to check out Evolutions. Short and sweet stories in bite-size format which, for the most part, compliment the games very well.
