In Response To: Re: More Adventures in 'Who Writes This Stuff!?' (General Battuta) : Maybe I'm just looking for things to find fault in. But I do recall it : nagging at me my first time through as well, when I was a bit more sunny. And for the vast majority of players out there, it wasn't a nagging problem. It was taken in stride and forgotten.
But again, that's one distinction between hard core story fans from the gamers in the community. The "who cares, it's fun"s from the "but I pay attention to the details!"'s..s...people...and stuff. I can see both sides of the argument. It was fun, ultimately I don't care if some military jargon isn't actually 100% accurate, for instance, but for those who are in the know, something so minute can be a huge break in immersion. It's like professional tradespeople watching a home reno tv show, or a top-tier chefs watching a cooking show, or especially military vets reading geek novels that incorporate military content. For the vast majority - none of that will be a problem. But for people in the know, it can be deal breaker, even unintentionally. I guess the point is - if it's a deal breaker for you, are you going to shrug it off, or make the experience worse for people who really don't care much? (or care as much as their friends will continue to praise/not criticize what they love) *shrug* Sometimes ye just gotta shrug it off.
