In Response To: Re: More Adventures in 'Who Writes This Stuff!?' (General Battuta) : Attention to detail pays. I wouldn't have enjoyed Black Hawk Down if somebody : had gotten on the radio and started calling to "American helicopter : Uniform Six-Four!" or what have you. :D Blackhawk does not equal Frigate. Maybe someone with Navy knowledge can reply here, but I would imagine that today's Navy uses the "USS" in communications, ie USS Arizona, USS Ronald Reagan, USS Cole. It makes sense, seeing as how a lot of ships are named after people, places or phrases. Seeing as how the human "empire" in 2552 is so large, and we have so many ships, I doubt any one person has them all memorized, so it would be prudent to qualify your statements with the correct qualifier. In other games, we hear people say "the Autumn" or "The Dawn," but all these marines came from the same ship, and are just abbreviating. Hailing another ship should require more formality.
