In Response To: What would have made you happy? (FoolsRun) General agreement with all the opinions in this little sub-thread. I think it is more a concern about the way people view Activision, right now, at this point in time. Sure, we all know Bungie are not farm boys who will sell everything for a fancy magic bean, but we also know how Activision have ground pretty much everything they have had their grubby little paws on to the point of market saturation. Bungie creed: make the best game we can. Activision creed: latch onto the coat-tails of something shit-hot and milk that puppy for all it is worth, and any cost. When it does out, blame everyone else. Bungie belief: community is *everything* Activision belief: none (name a community that Activision happily, actively and directly supports...no? Thought not). Now, none of us are stupid. These are all businesses, and are governed by sensible business decisions, and ultimately profit. But the fear, I think, is that whereas Bungie combine a need for profit with the need for the best product they can create and a love of their followers, Activision is just about profit at any cost. My fear? Bungie will lose control, and despite independence (which can be changed) they will be bled to the point of exhaustion. If Activision can't even treat their own internal studio who just happens to have one of the most profitable games of all time (MW2) and made them almost $5 billion right, how do we think they will treat a mere publishing agreement? Sure, Bungie survived Microsoft. But Microsoft were just big, and a little bit rubbish when it came to games. And people bitched then, but that was Mac vs PC. That was a section of the gaming community missing out. This is about fear for the studio we have all come to love over the years. We don't want what we feel is the best studio out there by far to be ravaged, picked over and dumped on the pavement like Harmonix, IW or scads of others. Activision? To me, they're just plain nasty. I feel they will step on whoever it takes to get where they need to be. I can only wish Bungie luck, and hope that this deal - which could not have been anounced at a worse time - does not screw the pooch right royally. -- dogsounds
