A lot of longtime fans, myself included, thought it was highly likely that Bungie really didn't know what they were getting into when they were acquired by Microsoft. To some extent that may have been true, but I think it's also inarguable that the studio survived and prospered. To what extent it remained what it was is debatable, but that very fact is encouraging in itself-- it might have transpired that the entire studio was so altered as to have been unrecognizable by all its fans, and that clearly hasn't happened. Many of us-- myself included-- may also be feeling again as if Bungie is sticking its head into the lion's mouth-- just a different lion. It may be worth wondering whether now, like then, Bungie knows at least one thing about the situation that we don't. At the very least this isn't being described as an acquisition, but rather a partnership. Although it would seem clear enough from the use of the word "exclusive" that things might hit the fan if anybody catches Ryan talking to another publisher anywhere in public for the next ten years.
