To see why people lament this decision you have to understand why people dislike Activision. Beyond all the IW scandal, and the deliciously evil quotes from the Kotick-- it's about Activision and their penchant for driving a franchise into the ground. No one doubts that Bungie will be able to make another great AAA title for Activision. Let it be related to Aerospace or what have you. In 10 years, that's probably about 3-4 titles for a single franchise that, let's all be honest, if it sells over the 5-6mil mark, Activision will begin to demand more. There's a difference in the way Activision and Microsoft have panned out as publishers. Microsoft w/the exception of Bungie perhaps, has made a practice of hiring developers with their best days behind them. Rare, Digital Anvil, Lionhead, Ensemble-- all were great at one point, but incredibly within a niche market. Activision takes great talented squads, usurps their franchises and churns out bland tasteless farmed-out sequels year after year. I wish Bungie well in their new venture, but I don't see it ending well for them and their future franchise.
