While I do see the appeal of this, I have no doubt some mod maker will have you able to pilot the dropships in no time. What I mean is that within the constraints of the story and multiplayer games, I would guess that Bungie has found that flying the dropships while amusing created a lull in the action that just didn't fit well with their vision. If there isn't a need to carry around a bunch of troops over a large distance then why would you want to use a dropship ? Take movies for instance, how often is it that the guy piloting a helicopter or plane that gets the main charactors somewhere as a main charactor ? -Cunbelin The Godlike Wisdom Dispensing Machine
