You know, I think this must be indicative of the sorry current state of affairs in our society.
When a man cannot simply accept a compliment, thank the giver graciously, and move on, clearly, I think, there is a warped mentality of paranoia running- shall we say, rampant?
Now, Zaknafein, this is my turf, and I don't want to start any flame wars that look like the leaning tower of Ones and Zeroes any more than (I assume) you do. I'm the one that will have to stay and clean up (well, live with) the mess when you've flown back to whatever your little hidey-hole is you usually frequent.
Now, generally, when one considers the term "insult" (this is English, mind you, in case there's confusion), one can speak of one of two things. There is the passive insult, the form of which usually takes the form of a noun, as a subject. Then, there is the active noun, involving verbs associating a subject in an action of questionable likelihood and integrity (e.g. "go take a flying leap", "stick your head up a donkey's hoof marks", "your mother wears combat boots" or "[beep][beep][beep] FISH!). Seeing as the only active terms in my above stated sentence are extremely valid remarks relating to Bungie and Microsoft, and the game Halo, I will have to assume you do not mean those. This leaves us with the passive remarks, namely, the subjects.
Let us examine them ::clears throat, picks up chalk::
I use two terms to relate to you, Zaknafein, "man", and "genius." Now, to be perfectly honest, I am already in a state of confusion. The general usage of these terms- both of them, mind you- is for the most part considered to be on of endearment or admiration. "Man" refers to the species Homo Sapiens Sapiens, as well as the male of that species, as well as (as it is used here) a colloquial slang meant merely to address associates. "Genius", used in a sentence, is usually understood to express a person of above-average intelligence, education, or mental capacity, as well as a level of IQ testing opposing "cretin" and just above "gifted".
I am afraid that, in past experience, I have been taught of these terms to both be postive- one friendly and jocular, for moments of lightheartedness, one respectful and revering, for giving acknowledgment to betters.
Clearly, though, I am mistaken in these things. Perhaps you, as a genius, who has expressed himself to be as such to his utmost capabilities with scintillating discussion, impeccable grammer and spelling, flawless etiquette, and brilliant points of debate.
I am at your command, oh noble one.
