-first of all, he is NOT my friend (called me a bunch of profanities for saying i liked bungie). anyways, this is exactly what i said in reply to his comment, but i wasnt sure, so i thought id better find out, hehehe..

-hmm..i think u got the Halo/xbox relationship wrong. MS needs halo to sell xbox's, thats why its being shiped with the system. this means that, if halo isnt being sold on the xbox because the majority of fans are waiting for the pc/mac version, then it might seem wise to MS to make it an exclusive.
the last thing MS really cares about (well, mb not the last thing) is money. what the xbox is doing for MS is capturing new markets, not making profits. because of this intention, i doubt that xbox will fail, hehehe, MS just has to keep pushing the console with its money and eventually take a large share of the market.
