Even if the demonstration was just basically a series of scripted events that the Bungie player had to coincide with, as many of you are saying, I don't really care. My point is simple -- nothing in Halo 2 gave you the same feeling as did watching that demo, except perhaps the Scarab incident.

Let's just take this out of the "Halo" franchise. What game, if any, has actually provided you with "wow moments"? Half-Life 2 provided a few for me, and yes, they were scripted. BUT, you were still in control. Seeing thousands of scanners flying out of the Citadel in HL2, or the Metro Cop raid on the apartments were just icing to the cake that was HL2.

Maybe it's just because I'm far more interested in immersion and storytelling than I am lazily fighting Jackal snipers in Halo 2's Outskirts, but I think we all strive to be immersed in the universe of a game.

And for what was perhaps supposed to be the first level in Halo 2, I wouldn't have minded the scripting at ALL. As long as they broke free from it at the time (or around the time) the demo cut out with the Elites, I would've been perfectly happy.

A scattering of more "wow moments" through the rest of the game here and there would've also sufficed.
