You and I were on the same track this morning with XBE downloads over Live. :-) (check out my post later down in the thread - didn't see yours before I'd posted.) The signing procedure - the way that Microsoft "approves" games for the console - requires developers to only use DirectX/Direct3D API available for the Xbox. Although devs do have access to the low-level kernel functions, Microsoft will not approve games that don't use the official API's. So recompiling the XBE (XBox Executable) to a Xenon EXecutable (XEX) file - which is likely more difficult than it sounds - would definitely be a feasible idea. Plus, due to the separation of the game code and game resources for most Xbox games that I've seen, the idea definitely makes sense. |
