In Response To: Re: E0... (a disreputable source) : 1. Not.
Yeah, thats the big problem. I'm looking foward to E0 because then I'll be able to do more. I think a complete rewrite of the engine is a good idea. First off, this way we're not tied to old coding. For example, lets take Eternal. When I play Eternal with 512x512 textures on my 1 GHz eMac with 32 megabytes of VRAM, it takes about twenty seconds to load every map, and then whenever I look at a large group of walls I haven't looked at before, it slows down a bit momentarily. Not bad, but, its quite irritating. Now look at Halo. Halo is doing MUCH more than Eternal is. Lots of 3D models, advanced AIs, landscapes, etc. My computer rarely slows down playing Halo. I'm guessing (I'm actually quite sure, because I think I've heard it mentioned on this forum) that this is because Aleph One is using ancient coding. I really hope that E0 will be as awesome as I'm thinking it will. And, of course, I'm really hoping that everyone hops aboard. |
