Give the guy a break, he's trying to take something we all love and make it more modern. I don't remember anyone dissing the Marathon:Resurrection crew for porting 'thon to the UT engine.

What made Marathon great to me was the story, the atmosphere, and the gameplay.

Anything that can make the storytelling and presentation better, the atmosphere more immersive and impressive, and (hopefully) improve and enhance the gameplay is alright in my book. Would it be Marathon? Maybe not. But I bet if we had an announcement that Bungie were remaking Marathon using an all-new engine we'd all be falling all over ourselves with glee.

I just played through Doom3, and while it's not the greatest game in the world, it's a million times better than the original Doom IMHO. There are a ton of Doom fanbois whining that the new game isn't exactly like the original, but they overlook the fact that it is still a very cool game. And I'm sure that anyone playing Doom3 that then goes back and plays Doom for the first time will be amazed that anyone ever liked that "crappy old game".

It's just a very different take on the same material. Injects some semblance of story onto the action, tells that story amazingly well, and heaps on TONS of atmosphere.

Personally, if someone wanted to remake Marathon using that engine, I'd sign up to help in any way I can.
