C'est vrai. The Dutch foreign exchange students generally did not have positive things to say about the Germans (who refer to themselves as Deutsche, where, ironically, we English speakers get the word "dutch").

Unfortunately, English shares no such relationship with a comparable language, only its pidgin offspring. Naturally, the English speaker will find similiarities and familiar words in German, Latin, and the Romance languages, but probably nothing close to your "global meaning".

This is because Finnish belongs to the Finno-Urgic family of languages; not even closely related to the other groups of European languages, sorta like Basque...

When I get back to school I've got to hit the ol' Espanol pretty hard.
