: Having the option of old and new AI would be the ideal for me.

most open source doom/quake/etc clients, through the console and command line parameters, allow you to pick what you please in almost all areas (although on a side note i'm not aware of any with specific ai changes).

the point is is that with those clients you can choose however you want to play, and the people who get their panties in a bunch whenever there is talk of improving anything outside of textures and blather "AAGHHRGEJHRGK IT WOULDN'T BE MARATHHOOON AAHGUAUAGHGHGR" need to understand this. if you want your stone age marathon - fine. you've had it for a decade, and you'll continue to have it. but ideally a new open source client should allow more for those who want it.
