: No, I just meant that you can ignore the MI story and M2 plays exactly the
: same. It doesn't mean that MI accomidates NOT having the W'rk.

Except that the final chain of events which occur in Infinity are different from those that occur in M2. They are similar but not the same; most notable the Durandal-Thoth merger, the Player coming from the Pfhor side and then switching to Durandal's side, and the fact that the nova was contained.

But you're kind of right in that from *everyone else* in any particular universe's perspective, Infinity "didn't happen". Only their particular timeline happened. It just so happens that all of these except the last one of Infinity were destroyed when the W'rkncacnter was released.

Basically, Infinity is saying "and then [M1 happened], and then [M2 happened], and then Lh'owon blew up... actually [M2] didn't quite happen like that, the player was on the Pfhor side but Lh'owon still blew up... although, that's not really it either, the player was working with Durandal and got captured by the Pfhor but still, that Lh'owon blowing up part was right... or maybe he was working with the Pfhor and then switched to Durandal's side? Oh yeah that was it. And the nova was contained so Lh'owon didn't actually blow up, it just froze to death. Yeah, that's it. [M1 happened], then the player was captured by Tycho, then he switched to Durandal's side at Lh'owon, Lh'owon's sun was blown up but contained and we all lived happily ever after."

From everybody else's perspective, only that last sentence there actually happened. Only the player got to jump back and forth and across to hear/tell the stuttered and confused version of the story like that... and it was his knowledge gained from all the problematic earlier versions that allowed him to cause the perfect final version. (Although the other versions "still" "exist", as much as such temporal and existential terms can be used in a trans-temporal, multiple-universes context like this... and besides, they all end in chaos anyway, so their "continued existence" doesn't really matter).
