In Response To: Re: The storyline... (Steve Levinson)

: This is what makes Infinity seem so
: crazy - one minute we're helping Durandal, and the next we're helping
: Tycho - but it's all because we're trying different strategies to
: ultimately prevent the release of the W'rkncacnter and, hence, to save the
: Universe.

But what are we actually -doing- differently? To take the game at face value, and say we actually teleport directly from Ne Cede Malis to Rise Robot Rise, raises many questions. If we only just arrived in this timeline, then what made our alternate self* decide not to go with Durandal (or made Durandal decide not to take us)? And where is that guy now? Dead? Teleported to Ne Cede Malis?

And on Acme Station: Why doesn't Durandal notice that we have different weapons than the ones he gave us? How do the dream levels fit in - do they physically stand somewhere, since we can take weapons out of them?

I'm pretty sure those questions can't be definitively answered using the current canon. Any explanation would have to involve mistakes or illogical omissions by Double Aught. That's why I think we need one last interview with Greg, and/or possibly Chris. I imagine they want to move on to bigger and better things; but people are still playing Infinity and gaining nothing from its story, because of its fundamental inconsistencies.

Making the interview public would be the quickest and easiest way to wrap things up. But maybe we want to use it for something more elaborate; like an "Infinity 1.1" map with contradictions revisionized (and new levels inserted?), or a small Bungie/Greg-approved scenario to conclusively tie up the worst loose ends from Infinity, while creating new and better ones to inspire fanfic.

I still don't think I want Marathon 4 made by Bungie, though. It would be awesome in many ways, but after 8+ years of nothing but Halo, an original story would be much more awesome. (Also, I still want to play/watch/read Duality.)

* Assuming it was Mjolnir 54 who was originally in our cold sleep tank.
