I prefered to take the non-literal interprotation of the Yrro-Pthia mythos and the creation of the S'pht. Thus, the W'rkncacnter are really just a hollow notion of fear- horror, if you will. I prefer to see Marathon 2 ending with the death of Lh'owon, and nothing more.

As in, the Phfor, tragicaly, use the TriXeem on Lh'owon's sun, destroying the system. The player along with Durandal escape aboard the Khivia, with the united clans and so on, and who knows what happens from there. Thus, the death of Lh'owon is simply tragic, no need for any other interpretation.

Of course, I suppose M:Infinity's style actaully accomidates that notion- as in, you can just ignore it from the story since everything happens non-lineraly and simultaniousley with the conclusion of M2. So again, M2 is my definitive conclusion.
