You all raise some interesting points. There are some who would call you super-nerds, and that it's jsuta video game... :)

Fortunately, I am not one of them. Anyway, it is quite possible that the Covenant was formed just for the purpose of achieving the Prophets goals.

Also, Prophet is a false name, and is based on a title for a religous leader. I find it inconcievable that an entire race could be called "prophets"

The Covenant is basically an enormous cult that is led by the "prophets" to achieve their goals. Perhaps over time, the true cause of this cult was forgotten by most of the prophets. Except for some, like Truth.

Think about it. What sentient species doesn't want to feel like they are a part of a bigger picture, and that something wonderful is waiting for them after they die. The is the entire basis of religon, it feeling of belonging. That is why the Sangeili and all the other Covenant are unwitting tools of the prophets and will sacrifice themselves without a thought
