In Response To: Re: Meh. Maybe. (General Vagueness) : What? I'll agree on there being issues with the new visuals, but classic mode : looks fine, what's wrong with it? Did you click the linked article? : Firstly, they'd also have to replace the physics engine (already done in
That's fine, assuming you're okay with pissing off those people who really like Halo 2's MP as-is. My point isn't that Halo 2's MP is perfect, it's that it's that it would be much easier than Halo 1 to bring a reasonably online-functional peer-to-peer version of it online, since said version already mostly exists. : Secondly, if they didn't want the first
Speculation time: I've long suspected that trying to avoid lengthy testing-heavy engine work is a far larger reason that CEA didn't include CE's MP than fear of competition, regardless of what marketing says. It's the same reason that we wound up with pure lockstep in campaign with no client-side considerations. The game had a blazing fast 1-year development time, and they wanted to minimize heavy mechanical engine work while also trying to get everything else functional while also having a team of artists slave away far faster than anyone should ever have to slave away on a modern AAA game's visual layer. Their concerns are arguably justified by (not speculation; confirmed in GameDeveloper Postmortem:) the fact that a whole lot of stuff (such as cutscene animations) still didn't get finished on time. : um, no? I thought that was the reason Backwash was taken out of matchmaking,
You're not remembering wrong. I was mostly thinking of campaign when I made that post, and Halo 2's fog systems all seem to work in single-player (which is where fog is most prevalent anyway), whereas none of CE's animated fog works outside of the original Xbox on any platform. In any case, that's one example of visual brokenness, and it's from a DLC map... whereas the 360 emulation of CE has broken fog and a few other quirks everywhere, and Halo PC suffers from those plus a lot of other problems.
