The stun made for some interesting encounters for sure, and it made those weapons worth picking up just for that. In the case of the needler, the only thing its still missing is the explosive splash damage of the super combine. Granted, it was a bit strong in CE's campaign, but that could be balanced for MP I think. That splash damage allowing it to set off dropped grenades and even other enemies is pretty cool.
The needle rifle? Eh. It's ok I guess, I never really went for the weapon except when fighting Brutes (another cool touch I liked, the Reach Brutes being weak to needle based weapons) but I love and miss the Carbine.
In Halo 3, I was "that" guy who would forsake the BR every chance I got for that gun. It's all smooth purple sexy like.
For Halo, I want my Human weapons to work like we all know and love, but I want the alien weapons to be just that, alien. Make them do crazy stuff, make them sound weird or look strange. I don't want direct analogs of Human weapons. Give them some kind of twist.
For example, on the Carbine, make it so that once you drop the shields (if you don't kill with a head shot) that the body shots incur a radiation poisoning effect so if you survive the fight at say 50% health, it drops slowly to 25%.
Just a thought.
