See, that just strikes me as a naming problem. "Rifle" calls up the wrong mental image for the weapon we're being handed. Reach had the right of it by creating the Plasma Repeater, which I thought functioned almost identically to the old Plasma Rifle and would have been a perfectly serviceable successor.

The look of the Storm Rifle matches its name, but it also loses some of that immediately recognizable silhouette that the old Covie weapons had.
