I'm also a little bit surprised that now the Brute Hammer is just another "Covenant Weapon". Surely, the Elites would have wanted to recover some of the other Brute weapons that were vastly superior to their own (Brute Shot, Spiker, Choppa) as well?

I was a little surprised by this. How can the "Energy Sword" be hard light now? Does this mean we can walk up to people with the hard light shield and kill them? Or is the "Energy Sword" now just a REALLY SHARP form of hard light (as opposed to all of the other instances of hard light where it's completely harmless)?
