This is still possible. See The Avengers.

In Response To: Why the Halo movie failed to launch (ElzarTheBam)

Marvel Studios set out to establish film franchises for Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America - and they did it - with the cooperation of different film distributors, good directors and talented actors. And those franchises in turn were set up to culminate in The Avengers film (all the buzz for which indicates it's actually fantastic) and establish what they call the Marvel Cinematic Universe - all while maintaining strict creative control. If you told 10 year-old me I'd see this in my lifetime I simply wouldn't have believed it. If you told 15 year-old me, I'd have assumed it'd be really shitty. 30 year-old me just bought his tickets the other day though.

Say what you will about the quality of the Marvel films (which are admittedly uneven in some places), but if they can do what they did with The Avengers, Microsoft sure as hell can do Halo on film if they really want to. Maybe we just need a 343 Film Studios first.
