It was taken out because Bungie wanted it that way. It's a matter of preference and if you can make both preferences available and have them work, great, and I won't fault 343i for making the game act the way they want it to when that was one of the signature features when Bungie was running the show-- you can say they shouldn't shake up a game that was released this long ago like this, and maybe you're right, but I appreciate the options, and if push comes to shove I'll still have firefight, Forge, and custom games until the next installment.
