In Response To: Re: I think people missed the point.. (ArteenEsben) : I really like shield-popping for weapons like the pistol and DMR, It acts as : a good indicator, to both the player and the opponent, as to when they are : vulnerable to headshots. But I think the melee system in Reach could : really do with shield bleedthrough. If I take out 90% of someone's shields : with my weapons, my melee shouldn't just take out the last 10%. I'd have : better luck just sprinting around double-meleeing everyone. See, all I did was relearn to not melee until after the shield pop. In previous Halo games you were trained to melee as soon as you got close enough. In this case you will always kill them with one punch. Now it's just replaced with a short spray (3 shots from DMR, and something like 6-9 from the AR) and melee for a kill. Melee is one of those things that come down to more of a matter of opinion, but in Reach's case the bleedthrough totally screws with how the balance and feedback is built around the shield pop. I could write a whole long post on my opinion on this, but in Reach the shields are actually treated like a mechanic and not just a glorified extension of your HP like they were in 1, 2, and 3. Bleedthrough screws with this entirely. It worked in 1/2/3 because they were made with it in mind. OPINION TIME But this ties back into my previous posts that if 343 wanted to do all this, they should have waited for Halo 4. What is even the point of trying to change how Reach plays (and not even bothering to retune the entire sandbox) when Halo 4 is a year away and the game's been out for a year already? It feels like they have no confidence in their work. Very wishy washy implementation, trying to play the "cool uncle" role, and all of their efforts so far are playing it safe. The reason I fell in love with Bungie is because they didn't play it safe. I imagine other people on HBO have similiar feelings. They even remarked in multiple interviews and the Vidoc ("INSIDER INFORMATION") that Microsoft told them they would be fine with Bungie just "taking it easy" with their final game under the contract. Bungie's response was to completely overhaul their engine, create a completely new story, and rebuild the majority of their multiplayer. I want to see a 343 that doesn't play it safe. I want to see and be convinced that 343 isn't just going to try and remake Halo 2's sandbox for Halo 4. When I pick up a new Halo title I expect NEW experiences and NEW and IMPROVED multiplayer, not an attempt to make a game play like Halo 2.
