In : previous Halo games you were trained to melee as soon as you got close : enough. In this case you will always kill them with one punch. I know when to melee and all that, but I still find the mechanic to be counter-intuitive and unsatisfying, and Reach is less enjoyable for it. Stuff like this melee system, bloom, armor lock, sword blocking and all that, are interesting experiments. Should Bungie have put them in Reach? Sure, why not; I'm willing to give the new mechanics a chance. But having spent considerable time with Reach, I feel that they detract from the experience, more than they add to it. I do not mourn their loss. It's not like Bungie's never patched their games before, either. Both Halo 2 and Halo 3 had patches to the melee system.
