I picked up the term somewhere along the line. : True. Long ago, before Halo, I'd researched the crap outta submarines. That : lead to the moment of "Wait, what the muffins?" when I first : played Halo. "Um, guys? Why are the corridors so... big?" : ...Then by the end of the game I was wishing they were bigger. Submarines were a particular favorite. The Hunt For Red October spent a lot of time in my VCR, and reading the novel sparked my love for the topic. God, what a spectacular movie. I introduced my wife to it a couple months ago, and she loved it. You can imagine how happy this made me! Regarding outer space and submarines, that lack of space is a big reason why I think they'd be a good template by which to explore. The biggest similarity though is this: the stuff outside the ship doesn't facilitate human breathing very well. ;)
