: I'm not a role player, but I own the Sourcebooks from that game. The general
: one, the Rebel, the Imperial. The Death Star blueprints book. AWESOME
: stuff!

: I got it mostly for the layouts and detailed ship diagrams. In fact I bought
: the Heir to the Empire sourcebook solely for the top-view cutaway of the
: Imperial Shuttle. :)

WEG did good work. I'm equally glad that their successors have kept up the good work.

I got into role playing as a creative outlet when I didn't have any confidence in any of my story ideas. I found that I loved source books more than core books, mostly because they generally held so much more detailed world information. I could get more glimpses into how the world operated as a whole, which is where the real interest is for me. Stuff like economy, production, every day life stuff. To this day, I still buy RPG sourcebooks even though I rarely (if ever) play any more.

Here's a funny little secret: There's quite a few authors who don't role play but buy supplement books as quick reference materials. There's a couple of companies that put out awful games, but their sourcebooks contain such wonderful information in a condensed form designed to let somebody that isn't well-versed in a subject understand it that they make a lot of sales from people buying them as "primers." They know this fact, but they still make more money from it than if they were to make pure reference material. (I knew a few of the authors of some of these books who let me in on that little tidbit, but I don't have the numbers they gave me anymore. Sorry.)

: I'd love to see book like this for Halo, even if it wasn't for a game.

You and me both! They'd get all of my money in a heartbeat.

: I'm actually working on figuring out the full deck layout of the Forward Unto
: Dawn right now. Only a small part of it will be canon, but it'll be a neat
: exercise to figure out where every room is on all (as I counted them) 21
: decks.

...Please do this. Please. I'm now looking forward to this SO BAD YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
