: I'm not sure how many compartments are needed. I have every room mentioned on
: any UNSC ship in my doc taken from the games and novels. I have some
: reference material from Star Trek for some additional logical rooms on
: board spacecraft. On the one hand, I'm hoping the real locations will not
: leave me a lot to have to 'invent', but at the same time, I hop there's
: enough room for the compartments that do need to be there. No idea on crew
: size really so I don't know how many crew quarters there should be.

Also remember that a single bed can be used by different shifts. Shift A uses their bed, gets up, does their thing before their shift begins, then at shift change, Shift B does the same.

Another place to look for reference would be real-life naval ships. Again, they have the focus of cramming as much as possible into a confined space to possibly give you some ideas. As well, you might be able to get an idea as to what all would be needed on the ship, with alterations for it being in SPAAAAACE of course. It's easy to forget that there's a separation between officers and enlisted men in every level, including bunks and galley.

Another place to look is the real-world space program -- it comes in handy to remember stuff like "Oh, crap, I forgot that crew members have to BREATHE." It's honestly amazing what all a person can easily overlook that would be necessary. Then again, this is SF, so there's a lot of leeway where a person can nudge one way or another.
