In Response To: Re: Why is Cortana so important in Halo Reach? (Wurny) : I haven't read the novels but I assumed right off the bat that Miss Cortana : simply lied about it being a blind jump because if they knew she'd : violated the Cole Protocol she'd be made illegal and terminated : immediately. They'd be like "WHAT??? YOU CRAZY BITCH!!!!?" and : such. It's strange to consider that AI's can have ulterior motives and be deceptive in so many other ways. The Data Pads really reveal the extent to which this can occur and it's terrifying. To think that AI's are doing things that nobody ever intended them to do that have such tremendous impact on humanity (whether helpful or harmful). If anyone in-universe had this knowledge it would be such an earth-shattering revelation for the character that I imagine they would go crazy and hide the information all over a planet in tiny chunks on little PDA-like devices and in sometimes extremely hazardous locations. :)
