In Response To: Why is Cortana so important in Halo Reach? (Mirel) : A big deal is made about her leading the PoA to the Halo ring, but how is : that important really? The humans won the war because of differences : within the Covenant caused them to split. Humans didn't really have an : active role in it. No active role? You mean like physically stopping the rings from firing not once, not twice, but three times? : I'm trying to remember all the games, from beginning to end and everything
Except Halsey, apparently. : It turns out she was, yes, but for other reasons than people might have had
Without the PoA going to Alpha Halo, they wouldn't have learned knowledge about the rings. Even if Regret had still come smashing around Earth later on and warped to Delta Halo, the IAC wouldn't have had advanced intel on the layout of the ring. Chief might not have been able to kill regret. The Arbiter wouldn't have become the Arbiter since he would have had no failing with the destruction of the first Halo ring. And the Prophets would have had no reason (well, public reason) to exchange the Elites for the Brutes if Regret was still alive. Even if their inevitably was going to be a schism, it probably wouldn't have happened the same way and the same time as it did, leading to Humanity getting more stomped on first. And the Covies might been able to activate halo first.
