(ArteenEsben) : I think the issue is that the events of CE certainly matter, but the events : of Reach don't matter at all aside from ensuring CE happens. What the events of Reach tell us is that Reach is one of the most fortified worlds humans have...as much if not more than Earth itself. That Reach falls means that human extinction is as close to a precipice as it's ever been. That's what Reach itself does for us. We see in the events of the following trilogy that humanity survives despite being pushed to the brink. And a lot of that rides on the activities of Team Noble and getting Cortana (with the newly interpreted Forerunner data) to the Autumn to set in motion the events of the original trilogy.
