In Response To: Now with *SP* (was Re: I've become attached... ) (Anton P. Nym (aka Steve)) : All Bungie stories require work to fully appreciate; many of the threads and : themes are intimated rather than stated, and have been at least since : Pathways Into Darkness . It's rather late in the studio's life-cycle to : start complaining about it now. What is this bizarre assumption that I didn't play previous Bungie titles? I sunk a lot of hours into Marathon, Oni, and previous Halo games. Reach does not live up to this standard. You misunderstand 'work'. I do not mean intellectual work to appreciate the themes and threads of the story. I mean I have to come up with reasons to convince myself to care about the characters in Reach. I did not have to do this before. : Kat would not have been free to make Carter's counter-threat to Halsey when
: Leadership tasks would've forced KAT to delegate the hacking/technical stuff
: Kat's death is thematically important; just as she's warming to Six, blammo.
None of these reasons strike me as particularly compelling. : Kat and Carter make for a necessary duo, as each acts as an expository foil
Jun was underused. Make him the foil for Kat. Of course the exposition in general was bad, and should have been streamlined.
