Again i bring up the : 30-year old designs in Star Wars as an example, because it tells us that : just because something can look dated to major audiences, visual retcons : aren't necessary. And again, i'm talking design here, not graphics. This is not really true, or is a very twisted interpretation of the reasons between either. Star Wars did not start off as a video game where the look is often dictated by hardware limitations and balancing out processing resources. Star Wars started off with real life physical models that were built by very talented people. And if a real life Pelican model was made today, it would probably be to the same quality as those Star Wars models from the 70's, like what we saw with the Believe diorama. The things that make Star Wars look dated are not the designs as such, its the filming techniques of bluescreen to create the sequences. When they made the 1997 Special Edition, the challenge was to make the CGI X-Wings look as detailed as the original models had been.
