If Truth and Mercy, at least, didn't believe that some are sent to salvation while others are merely eradicated - then I doubt Mercy would have said "this time none of you will be left behind!" There is no reason to think that humanity wont be left around THIS time unless they know that, to some degree, the Halo's kill everything in their path. They might just be, as they are rapped up in their BS religion, under the impression that worthy ones are sent on the great journey, while the rest are destroyed by the Halo's "divine wind." Maybe the prohpets think THEY get to go and have used and lied to the rest of the covenant. All I know is that Truth, and the Prophets but mostly Truth, comes off as one shady mofo. Truth has been caught lying during the events of Halo 2 - when he is one his way towards the Forerunner space ship that sits as the center of High Charity and he is talking over the loud speakers - he says something about Mercy being by his side (and he isn't talking figuratively), yet this is after he left Mercy to die via the Flood spore, which Tartarus could have easily saved him from. That, in and of itself, is very interesting. He (including the other Prophets) also had the Arbiter killed, ordered the Genocide of the Elite race (yet passed it off as something the Brutes did on their own as Half Jaw blames only the Brutes for the genocide and not the Prophets too), among other things. The prophets are shady, but Truth is the shadiest.
