The humans are unable to contain the Flood in any way. They never have had a chance to contain them in any method or manner beyond blatant annihilation, which, when considering the Flood, isn't a bad idea. The humans certainly didn't do a good job of stopping the spread on Delta Halo. Hell, they lost their ship to the Flood in the first place. I mean, the Covenant certainly don't....granted, I think humans can be far more ruthless and efficient than the Forerunner were, however. The Forerunner might hesitate to use NOVAs against the Flood. It depends, though, on why the Flood needed study. What if the Flood themselves contained a means to transcend the physical? Immortality? What secrets does the Flood biology hold? The Forerunner let the flood live for a reason. I want to know what the hell that reason was, because I suspect its a damn good one. : Well, thanks for the fun conversation :)
