More user friendly Halos....

Does that explosion/blast also wipe out the flood? If this is the case, the Halo's should be set up to fire when all life has been overrun by the flood.(If they can build Halo's the can build a life detection device(s).) You know, gives all races a chance to come up with a better idea of stopping the flood. If they fail then blow everything up. Not, "Well rings are built, let's fire the thing."
