Looking at the scene extensively, I've come up with the following conclusions. She's got her two fingers crossed over her thumb, and she crosses them when the Chief starts talking about Miranda and Johnson, like Cortan is formulating a plan. Just as she is about to speak, she then puts the hand with her fingers crossed behind her folded arms so the Chief can't see them. As when the scene cuts to face Cortana from the position of the Chief we can't see her crossed fingers, but when we cut back to the side of Cortana, we can still see she has her fingers crossed, displaying to the audience she wants to hide something from the Chief. The lie is simple, and Cortana seems to cover this by saying it's not a very original plan, not what you would expect from such an advanced A.I, whose mind is fully on the job is it! In Cortana's defence, her fingers uncross when she says she needs to stay, so at that point she is defitnitely telling the truth. The thing is though; she still has her fingers crossed, when she says she doesn't want to chance a remote detonation. So, I think you can assume Cotana is lying about what she would do, however, she feels it's imperitive she stays. The question we must ask, is why? Just to add a bit more fuel to the fire against Cortana, notice that the MC is shocked when she says she wants to stay, and he even takes a step back. Before he can compose himself though, a pelican comes in distracting him. Now, is this a coicidence, or timed to perfection by the brilliance of a smart A.I, named Cortana? MC vince |
