In Response To: Cortana is Rampant! Cinematic Proof... *IMG* (prometheus) Although I would love to believe that Cortana is truthful and will not betray the Chief unless it gets in the way of the mission, the evidence is starting to pile up. In the picture, it does look as if she crosses her index and middle finger, which means she's lying about detonating In Amber Clad's reactor. The question then is, "Why would she not detonate IAC's reactor?" There are dozens of possibilities. I had thought that maybe she had wanted to team up with Gravemind to do who-know's-what. But, for that to be true, she would have wanted to talk to him right off the bat at the end and wouldn't have been so commanding and dominant towards him. Then again, maybe with all the information she gleaned off of Halo 04, she might have learned how to beat the Flood (perhaps by outwitting/killing/enprisoning Gravemind) and she's going to negotiate with him, gain his trust (although betray the Chief), and then strike when he least expects, maybe sacrificing herself in the process. But my gut is telling me that she will stay true to her programmed priorities and stay loyal....to a degree. I think that we as a group of speculative players are either pegging Cortana as hostile and not trusting her a bit, or trusting her with complete belief in her loyalty. But the way I think Bungie will surprise us is that she turns out to be doing something which the Chief will construe as betrayal, but Cortana's intentions were for something else. Betrayal has been a theme from the Fall of Reach, to Halo 1, to First Strike, to Halo 2. I think it will become a major motif in Halo 3, and Cortana will play a major role.
