Back in the early days, I fixed customers' computers with 64mb or 128mb of RAM with Windows XP installed, and a plethora of startup icons like NAV, AOL, Instant Messenger Programs, Calendar program, Quicken Billminder, MS Office. And they wondered WTF it took their computers 10 minutes to load to the desktop and why their harddrive never stopped threshing! I'd try moving my way around their system (Control Panel, Device Manager, Virus scans, etc.) and it seemed like everything was in slo-mo. You clicked on the icon you wanted, heard the hard drive grinding itself to death to cache the program, go have coffee, come back, and it was still slowly working its way to loading the program you wanted. That's what I think of when I think Halo Smart-AIs thinking themselves to death. |
