Firstly, I would like to say that I am not, and never have been, angry that the Endidu terminals were not made by Bungie (though I must say that there was some disappointment).
The problem that I find with the above statement is the fact that disregarding the 'fanfic' tag was foolish in HINDSIGHT. At the time when the Enkidu terminals were still alive and kicking, that there were but two ways to interpret the 'fanfic' tag: either as something to clue readers in on the fact that it was NOT Bungie's work, or as a clever little something to confuse the majority of fans. It would probably have been wise for the readers to keep their minds open to both possibilities. I am sure that most Bungie fans are intelligent enough to do this in most cases. The problem with the Enkidu Terminals, however, was the fact that they had the effect of exciting Bungie fans to a great extent (I still remember the explosion of messages the first few days after the release of 'Waking up is hard to do'). Most readers thought that they were finally getting some more information about the Halo story and universe. Keeping an open mind, like I said above, was probably the wisest course, but it is kind of hard to do when you are so excited about something.
Now that I think about it, you can't really blame some fans for getting angry, and you can't really blame Steve (and everybody else involved) in writing the Terminals because I would have rather had those few weeks of excitment than not.
