Enough on that... Shugashack gave halo a 6.4 for several reasons. One of these was that "the multiplayer aspect of the game looks to be the equivalent of TRIBES." Shugashack gave tribes 2 a score of 8.9. According to this clown, tribes 2 is merely a revamped tribes 1 with a few more toys. Hence, the multiplayer should be "the equivalent of TRIBES." Why isn't tribes 2 downgraded? Another game that was given a low rating for lacking anything novel was the quake mission pack. He says he likes it a lot...but there's nothing new, so he doles out a 7.2. At this point, I would say that dynamix gave him a hefty bribe, but...why would dynamix give a drunken lowlife a bribe, especially when said drunken lowlife operates a practically unknown site? To add to the confusion, warcraft 3, another game with absolutely nothing new about it, gets a 9.5. For those of you that don't know, warcraft 3 (from what I know about it) seems to be a direct copy off of heroes of might and magic...what makes it all the worse is that they won't admit it. Blizzard claims to have created a new genre...although I can't remember the name of it right now, it is something like real-time roleplaying strategy game (but, when you get right down to it, *whatever*)...but the idea of heroes that grow and affect the might of their army has been done before. I do not know why shugashack produces such imbecilic reviews, but I can make a fair guess. I think that shugashack rates warcraft 3 so highly because he really liked warcraft 2, and warcraft 3 is warcraft 2 with some new elements and some new units...warcraft 3 is warcraft 2, but better. Similarly, I think he rates tribes 2 so highly because he liked tribes 1 a lot, and tribes 2 is tribes 1, only better. He's being subjective here, and that is not a good thing in a reporter. He rates these two games very highly because their predecessors were good. However, Halo has no predecessor. While it is fairly developed, and looks absolutely awesome, he doesn't rate it highly because he is far too stupid to formulate an opinion without actually playing the game. And, despite posts to the contrary, you certainly can formulate opinions on games without actually playing them. For instance, I knew soldier of fortune was a good game long before I'd actually played it...before I'd even seen it, in fact. Feel free to tear this apart like dogs at a particularly tasty carcass, but if you insult me, I may have to knock on your door with my WSTE-M. | |
