Exactly. Halo is getting press because it deserves it, but hype is being generated because there's only so much information.

Translating the above as best I can, you seem to be saying "Halo's gameplay is shakey because we've never seen it." While I agree that what we know about Halo's gameplay is shakey because we've never seen it, I'd say the actual gameplay is crystalizing in Bungie's offices. THEY know, they're just not tell us.

And that's they point. He has an odd definition. MOST people understand this meaning of gameplay, otherwise the word would have very little meaning. I don't go around telling people their car tires are flat because I use an odd def where the cylinder height is less than the diameter... when a tire is "flat" people mean what they mean.

But not enough to construct an accurate portrayal of gameplay.

Of course, it has many subjective elements, but action gaming and the shooting genre, have many specific element that are universal to the genre. What you describe are more "gimmicks" of genre melding than fundamental specifics.

Right. But I don't care if you have my favorite toppings if the pizza sauce is sour, the cheese is like rubber, and the crust is rock hard. The toppings a great, they add a lot... but the fundamentals are still what make a pizza a pizza. Gameplay is what makes a game a game.

Yeah, but we've been drawing the same type conclusions since MWNY... the new footage only clears up a few things (that aren't content related).

Not at all, you're actually quite reasonable.

A lot of interesting things come out of the movie: walking speeds, damage, firing rates, etc. The problem comes from the fact it's all scripted. We can't be sure if what we're seeing is dramatic or not. If you accept that it is not at all influenced by artistic license, then the E3 movies tells quite a bit. Basically, if it wasn't scripted, I'd be perfectly happy (and, quite frankly, freaking amazed that they would be able to make a game that could do all that and be so dramatic).

But I'm not sure anyone uses that definition of gameplay when applied to an action game. Ah well, whatever.
