Lemme clear this up...

I agree with this. But lemme clear up a misconception....

"Reflect" is probably correct, but only if the footage is analyzed atomically. Having seen the movie, I seriously doubt it reflects an identical gameplay situation. It was scripted together for dramatic effect and attempted to show off elements of both multiplayer and single player simultaneously. First, let's analyze it from the single player viewpoint.

If this is how the game plays in single player, then you either have:

1. Amazing AI beyond anything seen before.
2. Huge amounts of scripting.
3. Planning Phase (something of a mix of the above two).

Now if it was 1, then Bungie would not shut up about AI like this. There's no way they would talk about all their other technology and NOT talk about this. I can only assume it is not AI. That is- if you put some BOBs on a user created map they will not behave on this level competely autonomously. The second possibility is that single player events occur with tons of scripting. Well, maybe, but that brings up a lot of issues like "What if you had not been there to snipe?" "What if they already had a sniper and you wanted to snipe?" "Are events going to occur exactly the same every single time... if not, can I simply reload over and over until they get it right?" and so on. Completely scripting CPU behavior, in general, is not an ideal situation. The third possibility is that their is either a planning phase or a mixture of scripting/AI... but the former makes it less of an action game and the latter still doesn't resolve a lot of the issues. What then... am I assuming?

I'm assuming, that- more or less- the BOB combat reflected multiplayer. Of course, there was a lot of dramatic behavior that wouldn't occur in multiplayer. There also probably won't be a specific player picked out to be The One who gets to be the cyborg. There's that whole camera angle thing, too. ;-)

Basically, the movie was made to show off more art content and spark imaginations (including Bungie's, I believe... I think it gives them something to aspire for Halo to become). If you view specific moments atomically ("How did that gun fire?" "What happens when you powerslide?" "How much blood indicates a hit?") gameplay is revealed, but I don't think this reflects something you can play through from beginning to end.

The biggest evidence? Bungie didn't say it. If they wanted to dominate the show, all they had to say was "This is Matt playing through a mission. We've only changed the angles for dramatic effect. Thank you." Halo would have OWNED everyone at that point. Hands down. But the fact is it is a scripted sequence and it is mind candy... not gameplay.
