It occurs to me that this might also be a good way to keep hostages from escaping, knowing they're in captivity, or being a general drain on resources like air or water. (I gather Kron & Bros hold folks for ransom, or that they are in on such plots in general.) Also, it could make some nice foreshadowing for Tom and Sue getting pulled out of Virtuality.

And Kron might get a kick out of technology for Xio's pet project being used for nasty ends, and have made sure this was standard kit for kidnappers in general, should the group that nabbed Metis's client be otherwise unaffiliated with him.

Come to think of it, Xio basically was a Virtuality server. Exactly how special are the circumstances to be a server like that? I'm imagining certain segments of the population basically being Ehrben(sp?) in spirit, hosting their ancestors. Maybe some of them even survived Virtuality going kablooie...

Can corrupted avatars reincarnate as uncorrupted avatars, or are they prevented somehow? Also, were Tom and/or Sue ghost-stalking Vis for some reason before she started avatar experimentation?

I though maybe Sue rebirthed first then alerted Tom, but, mindwipe would have kept her from seeking out Tom, wouldn't it?

Are corrupted avatar ghosts visible to ghosted uncorrupted avatars? are any ghosts able to see other ghosts?

Also, you'd mentioned ghosts can choose how they reincarnate. Are there any categories of people that are mysteriously unable to conceive? (ie no one wants to be their child)

Mechanisto was a 3D modeling program for Mac OS 9. Untextured models have a sort of yellowish off-white color. I take it you have a more greyish off-white in mind. (Is Keius's ship also vulnerable to Mac viruses?)
