I think it's simple enough to keep the Demons from killing Xio by just auto-unplugging any that get too close to him. : (Did the Queen of Hell get her own magic body?) That is a very interesting question I hadn't thought of before, and it could make for a lot more interesting action in these climactic episodes. The Queen could be there on the front lines with her Demon army while fighting the Titans (Kron + Horsemen + Osan, I keep forgetting to call them that collectively) out in space, which could make those battles more interesting and personal (having Metis fighting "herself", for example). At the same time though, I had thus far been imagining that Tom and Xiu were fighting the Queen in Virtuality the whole time between part 1 episode 1 and part 3 episode 1 when the finally crash the Sword of Darklight into the virtual moon, and I was thinking that that was kind of boring and I should come up with more interesting things for them to be doing for those six episodes while the space battles with Metis and the Titans are happening. Having the Queen fighting battles on two fronts, in the real and virtual worlds, could help make that more interesting. She could eventually end up splitting herself in two (like you can do in Virtuality) to handle both fights at the same time. : Like, proto enough that the only real idea you had was that silly ending, and : you thought it was cool at the time. I think it involved having shotgunned : some random boss alien prior. (and maybe you (the player) were wearing a : cowboy hat) : Still not ringing any bells? Nope, but then I've forgotten a whole lot over the years so that might just be one of those things. : How may of these progressed beyond the "neat idea" stage before : getting assimilated into Quelouva? Only Dynasty actually made any progress toward becoming an actual game, though the others often had what I thought passed for design documents at the time, which are all kind of embarrassingly incomplete looking back on it now. Asiron had some very primitive proto-character-animations done for it, too. Portal might have had at least one as well, for a little fighter ship or something. : What were these different ideas for the ending, and what made them not work? It's not so much that they didn't work, as I had other interesting ideas that I wanted to do instead. The ending I have now is largely a combination of lots of them, trying to make the best parts of each of them all mutually compatible. One of them was that Tom and Xiu would free Xio's avatar inside Virtuality and the entire thing would just end with him saying, like a Star Trek holodeck, "Computer, end program". Another was that Metis would have to kill Xio to save the galaxy and it would be heartbreaking. Another was that Metis would have to log into virtuality and somehow merge again with the Queen of Hell (since they're the same person), and then she would have the power to just stop the attack. In some version or another, the Minded Worlds had kept a backup of all of the Ehrban and Humans and Sphidi through their nanites (because basically all humans have them by now even if they're largely inactive) and restored all the dead into new magic bodies making the real world as pliable as the virtual one. In other versions, the "real world" turned out to have been another layer of virtuality after all, and one viewpoint character or another just woke up out if it after the end of all things. You can probably see how aspects of all of these got rolled together into the current ending. : You started this thread in the latter half of August. Had you had feedback : prior to then? Nope, and I was starting to get super depressed and discouraged about it. That's a large reason why I took the opportunity to post about the 20th anniversary when I realized it was coming. An excuse to post about it and maybe get someone to give me enough encouragement to keep going.
