I agree completetly.
One thing that made the first game so different from the others is that you can't win the first game. You start out by kicking some ass on the marathon and find that it was all to no avail. Next Leela takes off and You are taken up by our old crazy friend. Then were off to the Pfhor ship and a little latter we wave good by to humanity forever as the Pfhor take the mararthon and bomb the colony.
In M2 we are the god of war who is sent in to do this and then do that while we are told the story of the spht. We traipse about the planet and then it is taken out in a nova. It is what it is, a bright wonderful paradise. It was not meant to be the horror game the first was.
Mi has the mixing of the two games. Without the nasty traps or out of nonesensical puzzles of M1.
