In Response To: So about that story... (davidfuchs) Actually it's quite simple. This game is the first to introduce the concept that humanity was actually chillin and doing great things going back 100,000+ years ago and were actually de-evolved because Mr. Didact be so mad. But they don't do a really good job of explaining it or even implying it in this game beyond a line or two of dialogue. Suddenly anyone who's followed the previous games (no expanded universe) finds out that it wasn't the Halo rings that technically wiped us out and then we got re-seeded or somehow survived and continued to grow, but we went to war and stuff went down. Wait what? Humanity's been around before? This war goes back forever? We're not okay to take this so called Mantle? What? We can't even get Covenant or Prometheans to bow down to us? How? We just met them. What is this guy implying? And I won't even get into the plot devices used to progress the story (or the ridiculous one at the end). From the standpoint of Forerunner vs humanity vs random Covenant sect alone, there are so many unanswered questions and so many things left unexplained that make no sense to someone who just picks up the game or has even played the previous games (but possibly didn't explore) that to disregard and be insulting toward those who don't understand is, frankly, fairly obnoxious on your part. I'm glad you understood it, don't disregard those who didn't. Personally, I understood it just fine. I just feel that the story itself was a mess and has a lot of problems, and if you're so awesome and amazing that you can understand the most complex of all tales or even the most simple of tropes in such a brilliantly condescending way, one would assume that you could comprehend why this story might be jarring or hard to follow for those without your inate ability to be so pompously and condescendingly capable of following stories.
