: My personal theory is that the Jjaro were a race of AIs, and Yrro was a
: representative of that race. Jjaro were symbiotic, though; they were
: intended to be paired with another AI, focused on balance, which would
: prevent them from going rampant. Pthia was one of these (cf. the terminal
: in Aye Mak Sicur where Yrro is lamenting the loss of Pthia; "endless
: ancient balance / then nothing"). Thoth was one of this type of AI as
: well, possibly S'bhuth's mate, left behind in K'lia's sudden departure
: ("I was left behind" in "We're Everywhere"; "he
: was not meant to be alone" in "Charon Doesn't Make
: Change"). Durandal, of course, is a Yrro-type AI; however, since he
: was created by human programmers reverse engineering Jjaro tech and who
: consequently didn't really know what they were doing, he was never paired
: with a Pthia-type AI, and in fact, this is why every single human AI we
: ever get any reference to in the game eventually ends up going rampant.
: When Durandal and Thoth are merged, the combined entity tells you "We
: are whole again" — notice the "again". This sentence
: wouldn't make sense if Durandal and Thoth had been functionally complete
: entities before the merger.
